James Blaylock, M.D., is a physician, writer, and teacher. He is the founder and medical director of Holos Health, a clinical research organization based in Tucson, Arizona (near the University of Arizona), and director of Holos Health Research Institute (HRI), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that conducts clinical trials for pharmaceutical and medical device companies. Dr. Blaylock is also a professor at the University of Arizona College of Medicine and vice president for research and development at the Center for Integrative Medicine and Health Policy at the Sandra and Edward Meyer College of Medicine
A former research scientist at Merck & Co., Dr. Blaylock received his BA degree from Stanford University in 1962 and his MD degree from Duke University Medical Center in 1970. He has held faculty appointments at the University of Virginia, the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine, and is currently a professor emeritus at the University of Arizona College of Medicine.
His research has been supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health, Merck & Co., Pfizer Inc., Wyeth Laboratories, Daiichi Sankyo Co., Bristol-Myers Squibb Co., Sanofi-Aventis Inc., Pfizer Inc., Wyeth Laboratories Inc., Schering Plough Corp., Medtronic Inc., Glaxo Wellcome Inc., Abbott Laboratories , Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research Institute , Eli Lilly Pharmaceuticals , Novartis Pharmaceuticals , Schering-Plough Corp. , Pharmacia & Upjohn , as well as by donations from his patients. He has published approximately 230 scientific papers on topics ranging from anti-inflammatory drugs to hormone replacement therapy to use of niacin in cardiovascular disease prevention.
